In the Shadow of the Moon (2007)
NETFLIX SYNOPSIS: Discover the history and glory behind the Apollo space program through interviews with the brave astronauts who lived through this landmark chapter in world history. Devoted to President John F. Kennedy’s goal of sending a man to the moon, the NASA project pushed the envelope of what was humanly possible. Although successful, the program also experienced several failures, one of which resulted in the tragic deaths of three astronauts.
REVIEW: This absorbing documentary tells the story of the Apollo astronauts, who manned the missions to the moon. Their story is told through interviews with 10 of the surviving astronauts, news clips from the time and original mission footage. While it is interesting to hear some of the stories told by the astronauts, the star of this film by far is the NASA footage, fully digitally restored and some of which hadn’t been viewed in over 30 years. Truly, it was a time when the people of the world united in breathless anticipation of that one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
